IRELAND’S favourite comedy duo The Two Johnnies are top of the charts after hitting the number one spot with their debut album Small Town Heroes.

The album has seen off competition from Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish and is also the biggest selling Irish album of the year so far.

Featuring 14 brand new songs this album is the story of the small town heroes found in every Irish town, from the lads up on the scaffolding to the girl who makes your chicken roll (and doesn’t charge you for taco sauce)!

To celebrate the launch of their album, the lads spent the last week meeting fans and performing at record stores around the country including bringing Galway’s Shop Street to a standstill on Saturday.

Yesterday was a homecoming for the duo as they performed at Golden Discs in Clonmel – (next door to one of Johnny Smack’s former jobs)

Over 500 fans turned up to catch a performance of tracks like ‘St. Patrick Drove a Honda Civic’, ‘I’m So Hungover I Could Die’ and ‘Deli Girl’.

Speaking about the album going straight in at the top, Johnny B said: This is up there with managing Cahir to win the South Junior B Hurling title as the best day of my life.

“I’ve been writing and singing songs since I was 3 years old, this album has been a lifetime in the making. This is definitely up there as our greatest achievement.

“We can’t thank people enough for the support they’ve shown us. Not too many culchie bands get a number 1 album. Been playing gigs round the town since I was 14, so proud to be able to bring one home to the town, feels like we’ve won a county final. Start the mixer, the boom is back. “

Johnny Smacks said: “What a day for the parish! To all the small town heroes who bought this album, this one is for ye, real tunes for real people. Bonfires will be burning around Cahir this weekend!”

The 2 Johnnies will be celebrating their success later today with 20,000 fans in Dublin’s St Anne’s Park at their Pints in a Field 2! outdoor show.

The stellar lineup will see the duo and their Junior B All Stars band joined by Craig David, FIVE, Seamus Moore, DJ Jen Payne and much more!

You can also catch The 2 Johnnies in the coming months at Galway Summer Sessions on August 17 and TUS Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on September 1.
