250 car park spaces to be provided at unopened shopping centre

Some 250 car park spaces are to be provided in Naas town centre.

The spaces will be located in the basement of the as yet unopened Naas Shopping Centre.

According to developer Ger Roche it’s hoped to have the spaces available in the next three months.

Meanwhile work has taken place on the facade of the building at South Main Street, adjacent to the Bank of Ireland building.

A new entrance has been created.

“The work isn’t quite finished yet. Some large glass panels have to be put in place but there has been a positive reaction locally to what  has been done,” said Mr Roche.

He said that this will be the first phase of the car parking element of the plan (the original planning permission referred to more than 700 car park spaces but that permission has expired).

Mr Roche said that the next phase is likely to be reopening of the Forge Inn pub, which has been closed for many years and the opening of a unit in the mall area of the shopping centre.

He hopes the pub will be opened in “a couple of months.”

Meanwhile local estate agents Coonan Property and CME Estate Agents will deal with queries from people interested in leasing any of the units.

The standing structure of the shopping  complex extends to 22,760sq m (245,000 sq ft) on two levels 

The Roche Group, which developed the Vista primary care medical centre in the town, acquired the building four years ago.

The centre was placed on the market on behalf of the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) by specialist commercial selling against Cushman & Wakefield in  October 2019.

A guide price of €4.8 million was put by the selling agent, Cushman & Wakefield.

The 44-unit Naas Shopping Centre went up for sale with four existing retail properties fronting on to South Main Street.
