Man, 50s, dies after car enters a ditch in Westmeath

A man in his 50s has died after his car entered a ditch on in Westmeath on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.40pm on the R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.

The male driver of the car, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body remains at the scene at this time.

The road is currently closed with local diversions in place while a technical examination by forensic collision investigators will be conducted on Tuesday night.

The death brings the number of fatalities on Irish roads so far this year up to 96.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the Teevrevagh area are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
