Manchester United employees are bracing themselves for a worrying few days after Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to make 250 club employees redundant this summer.
Staff at the Old Trafford club were informed of the decision to cull jobs on Wednesday but at this stage, it is unclear which employees are set to lose their jobs. The job losses are thought to be instigated by Ratcliffe who has previously warned that he inherited a lot of ‘bad surprises’ when he secured his minority stake in the Reds back in February.
“I see the problem as an opportunity,” he told The Times. “There are so many opportunities to improve a lot of Manchester United everywhere we look, which is a good thing.”
United had the biggest player wage bill in the Premier League last season. However, despite Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) the Reds were not forced into sales ahead of the Sunday, June 30 deadline.

United redundancies put into perspective
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has put the decision to cut 250 jobs at Old Trafford into perspective.
He tweeted:
At an average salary of £35k, making a quarter of the staff at Manchester United redundant will pay for Mason Mount’s salary for 8 months.

Why has Ratcliffe decided to take this measure?
Ratcliffe has stressed the need to find cost-saving solutions to make United more sustainable.
Like all Premier League clubs, United need to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). While the Reds are feeling that pressure, they were not like Newcastle last weekend who needed to sell players to avoid sanctions.
