Wimbledon star wears wedding dress in match and wants fans to get married in it

Ukrainian star Marta Kostyuk worked with her tennis sponsor for a unique wedding dress last year and then took things to their natural conclusion when she came to SW19

Marta Kostyuk stepped onto court at Wimbledon in a replica of her wedding dress, telling reporters “it will be cool” if others are encouraged to wear it for their own wedding day.

The Ukrainian, who married her partner Heorhii Kyzymenko in 2023, walked down the aisle in a tennis dress designed with her sponsor Wilson. Now, just a few months on, a tennis-specific version has been brought to life.

Kostyuk wore that version for her first round game at SW19, complete with a button-up overlay which she removed before taking to the court. The outfit served the number 18 seed well, as she beat Rebecca Sramkova in straight sets.

“The idea and the story behind this dress is, I think, by far one of the best in tennis,” Kostyuk told reporters. “I don’t know if ever but for sure, right now.

“It was about being light, comfortable, free, feminine,” she added, per The Express. “Everything that was in my wedding dress is the same in this tennis dress. The fact that you come on the court with this like over-dress and then you take it off, it’s so cool. It’s unbelievable.

“I want someone to see this dress and be like, Wow, I can actually get married in this dress that she’s playing in. And I think it will be cool if someone really thinks that.

“I will put this dress in a frame and hang it on the wall somewhere for sure. Definitely will be one of the highlights of my life and my career, what else can you ask for?”
