This Morning’s Dermot O’Leary lands new TV show

This Morning co-presenter Dermot O’Leary has landed an exciting new TV job.

Dermot will be teaming up with former Taskmaster star Katherine Ryan to front the game show Silence is Golden for UKTV’s U&Dave in 2025, The Sun reported.

This new game show format gives each member of its live studio audience a share of a £250,000 grand prize — but they won’t all get to keep their winnings.

The only way an audience member can hold onto their share of the pot is to keep a straight face while a group of up to 30 comedians try to make them laugh.

“When a show like this falls into your lap, you can’t believe your luck. Looking forward to having lots of fun,” Dermot said of joining Silence is Golden.

Executive producer Richard Bacon also said in a statement: “The feeling when you’re not allowed to laugh at a funeral? It’s that – the game show.”

Dermot has plenty of experience hosting game shows, as he was the presenter of ITV1’s The X Factor throughout most of the show’s 15-year run.

Earlier in his career, the broadcaster presented the Big Brother companion show Big Brother’s Little Brother on E4 — and Dermot even got to host solo for the oft-forgotten Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack series in 2008.

In more recent years, he competed on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer, and hosted the British Academy Film Awards in 2021 with Clara Amfo and Edith Bowman. Before his BAFTAs gig, Dermot fronted the National Television Awards for nine straight years.

His current job is presenting ITV1’s This Morning with Alison Hammond on Fridays, plus on occasions when regular hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley are off.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
