Limerick senior football teams gear up for round two championship fixtures

THE round two fixtures of the Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship gets underway on Thursday, July 4 evening with Adare facing off against Mungret St Paul’s in group one in Askeaton at 7:30pm.

Both sides enjoyed wins in the opening round of the 2024 championship. Adare registered a hugely confident 1-13 to 2-4 win over Monaleen, while senior newcomers Mungret St Paul’s produced a strong performance against Na Piarsaigh in Claughan coming away with a 2-14 to 0-3 victory.

Elsewhere in group one of the football championship Na Piarsaigh will take on Ballylanders in Hospital on Friday, July 5 at 7:30pm. The pair of teams need a win in this second round game to relight their championship campaign after coming up short to St Kieran’s and Mungret St Paul’s respectively.

The final game in group one between St Kieran’s and Monaleen takes place on Saturday, July 6 in Adare at 3pm. Impressive St Kieran’s ran out convincing winners over Ballylanders in perfect conditions for football last week on a score line 3-11 to 0-8, while Monaleen came up short to 2023 finalists Adare.

Meanwhile group two of the Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship runs simultaneously as the group one games.

Newcastle West started their 2024 championship defence with a bang last week beating long time rivals Fr Casey’s, 1-12 to 1-9. The 2023 champions now take on Kildimo Pallaskenry on Friday, July 5 at 7:30pm in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale. Kildimo Pallaskenry also registered a win in their opening game of the campaign against Ballysteen 1-13 to 3-6after a final quarter surge.

2024 league winners Fr Casey’s will look to get their championship back on track as they take on Oola in Ballybrown also on Friday evening at 7:30pm. Both sides were unsuccessful in their opening round games and will need a win on Friday.

The final game of the weekend sees Galtee Gaels face off against Ballysteen in Killmallock at 7:30pm. Gaels got a three-point victory over Oola in their first game with Ballysteen still aiming for their first win of this year’s championship.
