Jordan Spieth Becomes Laughing Stock in Golf World Despite Narrowly Saving His Face at M Event

He has had better days on the Tour. A former No. 1 in the OWGR, Jordan Spieth hasn’t been having the best of years in 2024. Out of the 17 starts he made this season, he has missed the cut a total of 5 times, not to mention a disqualification at the Genesis Invitational. But the John Deere Classic seems to be a different case as he managed to make the cut for the Moving Day on Friday.

A tweet was, consequently, shared by the PGA Tour on its official X handle. It mentioned how the golfer was back inside the cutline at the $8 million event despite making back-to-back bogeys on the par-4, 11th, and the par-3, 12th holes. How did he do that? Well, it was all thanks to the two birdies that he carded soon after on the par-4, 14th and the par-5, 17th.

Do you think Jordan Spieth’s near-miss at the John Deere Classic was a fluke?

He needs to step up his game

Jordan Spieth is currently placed at T47 tied with 12 other athletes including Kevin Dougherty, and Jason Day, among others with a score of 6-under overall after the two days of play. The American pro was visibly happy about making the cut as well. “Once you make it to Saturday it’s a freeing feeling,” he said before expressing his determination to place better at the event, “Just being this far behind on a course where it’s not coming back to you is a tough place to be, but I’ll try and shoot 14-under on the weekend and post a good finish.”

Although the professional did express his desire to come out stronger on the remaining two days of play at the TPC Deere Run, the community wasn’t too keen on his performance. They didn’t shy away from making fun of Spieth as many flocked to the tweet shared by the Jay Monahan-led circuit to comment under the same.

Netizens dub Jordan Spieth as ‘Just a guy‘ who made the cut

2024 hasn’t been kind to the golfer. Spieth is yet to rake in a win this season and has just two top-10 finishes from the 17 starts. This has led to many of his fans turning against him as time went on. Moreover, out of the five cuts he missed, one of them came at a signature event, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, and another at the Masters. A fan alluded to the same as they commented, “Read also, ‘Annoying Headcase fights to make the cut at a non-signature event.’” Another follower also took to mock the American pro as they dished out a similar response, “Making cuts is now what Jordan Spieth is left to shoot for in tournaments.”

The golfer’s last PGA Tour win came in 2022 at the RBC Heritage where he finished a 13-under 271 to beat Patrick Cantlay, who placed T2. Fast forward to the present and he seems to be struggling on a golf course the athlete himself deems easy. “The course is — it’s one of the probably bottom half easier golf courses. It’s a great golf course,” said Spieth before confidently adding, “When it’s soft it’s one of the easiest ones we play… So I will try and beat the field average by four or five shots, but that is going to take shooting 8- or 9-under.” Even the followers agreed with the golfer as they felt the event and the course was as easy as they came. As a result, a follower disappointingly asked, “Is this what Jordan’s career has been reduced to? Fighting to make the cut in the John Deere… how has it come to this,” while another mentioned how he’s Just a guy” now.

Interestingly, not everyone ended up against the golfer as one person commented how he would end up victorious after the final round of play; “Plot twist – He will be no 1 on Sunday.” Maybe this confidence comes from the fact that Spieth had ended up winning the John Deere Classic in 2013 and 2015 despite opening the tournaments with a first-round score of 70 and 71 respectively. But will he be able to pull it off again? The fans can only wait and watch intently!
