Jurgen Klopp openly flirts with next job as he makes feelings on USA clear
Jurgen Klopp now has American soccer fans dreaming that he could genuinely be tempted to become the next United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) head coach after his recent Instagram post.
The USMNT decision-makers are currently conducting a “comprehensive review” of their performance at Copa America – after they failed to make it out of the group stages following a shock defeat to Panama before being beaten by Darwin Nunez and Luis Suarez of Uruguay.
Current head coach Gregg Berhalter is expected to be fired after he returned to the role for the tournament, with many questioning the hiring at the time as USMNT will now begin preparations for the 2026 World Cup set to be held on home soil.

Klopp had stated that he will look to take an extended break from coaching after leaving Liverpool, further admitting that he may never be in a management role again. However, The Athletic previously reported that the USMNT job is one that he may consider taking – with recent rumors arising on his name being a strong candidate.
And just hours after those rumors swirled on social media on Thursday, Klopp penned a letter to the United States and it’s fans to celebrate July 4. Klopp wrote on his Instagram: “It’s the perfect day to think about my trips with Liverpool FC to the States. We’ve had a great time & the US fans are electric! Happy 4th of July”.
The German’s admission on a podcast in May led many to believe that he would prefer managing a national team moving forward, rather than in club football. He told the Willipedia podcast: “It’s out of the question that I’ll stop working altogether. But I don’t see myself continuing at the same pace as before at the moment.”
The aforementioned report suggested that the German and USA national teams were the only jobs that he’d likely take, the former likely to be unavailable for several years after Julian Nagelsmann’s deal was extended.
Should the USMNT board decide to fire Berhalter, Klopp may be presented with a decision to cut his time away from coaching short – while continuing to have the time away from week-to-week management.
Liverpool.com says: Jurgen Klopp’s words since his shock decision to leave Liverpool do suggest that he would prefer coaching a national side rather than getting back into club management – and the United States role looks to be one that could be perfect for him.
While the USMNT disappointed at Copa America, it’s clear to say that they have the best talent that the national team has ever had – with several players at top European clubs and all yet to hit the peak of their careers. It would be a risk for Klopp, but if any head coach can turn a team around, it’s him.
