What Man Utd staff have heard about Jadon Sancho’s future ahead of return to training

Sancho hasn’t played for United since August 2023.

Jadon Sancho will return to training with Manchester United this week amid uncertainty over his future.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he reached the Champions League final.

That move was sanctioned after Sancho had a public dispute with United manager Erik ten Hag over his training performances, which subsequently led to the winger being banished from the first team.

Sancho went on to produce strong performances for Dortmund, particularly in European competition, leading to reports that the German club may try to sign him permanently.

According to BBC Sport, United will allow the England international – who was not selected in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad – to leave for a fee of £40 million this summer.

But as of right now, Sancho is still a United player, with no suitable offer forthcoming as of yet.

However, according to The Sun, even his immediate future at Old Trafford is unclear.

It is claimed that staff at United’s Carrington training ground are ‘in the dark’ over whether Sancho will join up with the first team squad for the start of pre-season, having worked on an individual programme after his row with Ten Hag until his departure.

The report adds that there is ‘no indication’ as to what Sancho will be doing in pre-season, although first team players usually get given a breakdown of their schedules in the first week of their return.

United’s decision to keep Ten Hag on as manager, with the Dutchman signing a new two-year contract last week, may prove to be the end of Sancho’s career at Old Trafford.

Were that to happen, his last appearance for the club would have been as a substitute in the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in August.

The 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the beginning of September was followed by Ten Hag’s remarks on Sancho’s training performances after he was left out of the squad, and he did not play again for the club that season.
