Costco shoppers suggest ‘shocking’ solution to tackle parking lot chaos

Costco patrons have come up with a straightforward fix for the retailer as they grow increasingly annoyed with a frequent issue in the car park.

Store members have taken to social media to express their annoyance at returning to their cars only to discover them damaged by stray shopping carts.

While numerous customers recounted their tales of woe, some proposed an easy solution that one claimed would have a “shocking” effect. “Thanks to the person at Costco who abandoned their cart beside my car and scratched it in the process,” lamented one disgruntled shopper on a Facebook page, as reported by the US Sun.

“Happened to mine last week too. Scraped in two spots several feet apart. No respect for others,” chimed in another in the comments section. Fellow patrons called on the wholesale giant to implement changes to its shopping carts that would incentivise proper return.

One suggested integrating the shopping carts with the membership system at Costco.

“Put key card system on the carts. If you don’t put the cart back you don’t get access to carts,” they recommended. “Would solve that issue immediately. Those who don’t respect the curtesy will shop elsewhere,” another concurred.

Another idea was floated that even if shoppers persisted in leaving their trolleys scattered, other customers might be motivated to tidy up in exchange for a reward.

“They need to do the coin thing there, shocking how fast someone will take their cart back for twenty-five cents,” another user pointed out.

Coin-operated trolleys are a rare sight, but you’re most likely to spot them at Aldi. Although they’re not widely used across the US, retailers might be persuaded to adopt these devices more frequently.
