Meet the 2024 All-Greater Rochester Boys Golf Team
Here is the 2024 All-Greater Rochester Boys Golf Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle and Messenger Post sports writers.
Golfer of the Year
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Nicole Wegman and Jason Wehle
Key accomplishments: Helping my team get to the section finals and sharing the individual section championship. Shooting under par eight straight rounds, and 15 rounds of par or better. And earning this award which recognizes the hard work and time I’ve put into my game.
Why is he Golfer of the Year: Danny Wehle was the most consistent golfer this season. Just a sophomore, Wehle is already a two-time AGR first teamer. He’s made the all-state team twice, placing 17th in June’s state tournament after placing fifth in 2023.
A two-time individual section champion, Wehle originally won the Section V Class B title as a Bishop Kearney freshman before becoming a co-medalist of the Section V Class AA and state qualifying tournaments with his teammate Richard Essen this spring. During the postseason, Wehle shot 3-under-par 69 in sectionals, and his even-par 72 during state qualifiers gave him a 1-under-par 141 two round total to safely advance to the NYSPHSAA tournament.
