Man headbutted while at shopping centre with his mum and young child

A man was headbutted and seriously injured while at a shopping centre with his mum and young child, police have said.

Police arrested a man in his 30s following a report of an assault in the Buttercrane Shopping Centre in Newry on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, at around 12.15pm.



It was reported that a man in his 40s was headbutted and sustained a serious injury to his eye during an altercation at the shopping centre.

The injured man, who was taken to hospital following the assault, was accompanied by his mother and young child at the time of the attack, police said. They were not injured in the altercation.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the PSNI added: “The man arrested, on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm with intent, remains in custody at this time.
