Cork woman accused of theft of charity collection boxes and other property

A Coachford-based woman accused of carrying out the theft of charity collection boxes and stealing other property mainly in Cork city was remanded on bail for a fortnight.

Emma O’Mahony of The Cabins, Coachford, County Cork, was granted bail by Judge Mary Dorgan at Cork District Court.

The cases were put back until July 25 to allow time for prosecution statements to be sent to her solicitor, Eddie Burke.

The charges relate to alleged thefts carried out between June 2023 and February of this year.

She is accused of stealing five bottles of whiskey at Lidl on Cornmarket Street, three electric toothbrushes (valued €366) at Dunnes on Merchants Quay, and taking the tip jar from the counter at Nectar café on Parnell Place.

In respect of charity collection boxes, it is alleged that Emma O’Mahony stole a charity box containing €550 from the Accident & Emergency unit of Mercy University Hospital, a charity box for the Sick and Poor Society at Sexton’s shop on Old Blackrock Road, containing €40.

The defendant, who is aged around 30, is also charged with stealing €241 of household items from Homesense on Grand Parade and taking a small amount of property from Go Plus, Main Street, Carrigaline.

Sergeant Dave Delea said there was no garda objection to the accused being remanded on bail.

Bail conditions require her to reside at the Coachford address, stay out of Cork city, save for legal and medical appointments, abstain from intoxicants, commit no offences and provide her phone number to gardaí to be available for contact at all times.
