Susanna Reid has lost over a stone since she decided to give up alcohol, revealinf she just ‘stopped enjoying’ it.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, decided to give up drink in recent years and now doesn’t think she could cope with the early call for the breakfast show if she still still drinking.

She told Woman: ‘I stopped enjoying it. I prefer life alcohol-free, it’s tiring and the hangxiety got to me.

‘I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before. ‘

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant has lost more than a stone since ditching the booze and admitted that she felt ‘fantastic’ since going sober.

She added: ‘It turned out that I was at the upper end of my BMI and, I have to admit, I’d been feeling a little heavy for a while. I’ve lost a stone-and-a-half since then and I feel fantastic.’

In terms of diet, Susanna also admitted that she has stopped filling up on ‘half a packet of Rich Teas’ and now enjoys toasted rye bread topped with a poached egg and avocado instead.

Susanna is also well into fitness, having completed two marathons and  two Great North Runs but had to pull the plug on the gym because it left her ‘too hungry’.

The journalist also noted that she does have a Peloton bike but admitted that it has found a new life ‘as a clothes horse’ these days.

Earlier this year, Susanna admitted that she had decided to give up alcohol completely because medics had warned her that her drinking was behind her skin issues.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, she said: ‘Lots of people are doing Dry January and you really need a proper motivation for doing it. If you have a vague ‘Oh, I shouldn’t drink’, it’s hard to stick to it.

‘You need a ‘why’ to do it. And my why was a number of things.

‘But one of them was – I kept getting breakouts on my skin. And my doctor said it was because alcohol dilates your blood vessels and so you get more of a blood rush to the skin, you get that flushed look.

‘I was prone to spots, breakouts, rosacea. Every time someone said ‘Oh, just have one’, I would think, ‘I don’t want one on my skin!’ It was a brilliant external motivator.’

Susanna – who is mother to Sam, 21, Finn, 19, and Jack, 18 with former partner Dominic Cotton – added that she is now in something of a ‘virtuous circle’ as she continues to feel better and better as a result of her abstinence.

She added: ‘I think when you’re getting up in the morning, you need a clear head. Lots of us tend not to have an alcoholic drink the night before a shift but I just found that even if I had a drink at the weekend, it was taking longer to flush it through. And I just didn’t like that feeling of hangxiety.’
