Cheapest day of the week to begin your holiday in order to ‘avoid high prices’

We all know that holidays can be really expensive, as you’ll have flights, accommodation, food, travel and entertainment to pay for during the course of your stay.

Because there’s often no way around the expense, it can be helpful to know little tips and tricks which could save you a bit of money here and there.

And according to one seasoned pro, by starting your holiday on one specific day of the week, you’ll be able to boost your savings whilst still having an amazing time away.

Conor O’Neill, travel expert at money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, has lifted the lid on some common holiday-related rip-offs that are easily avoided if you know what to do instead. He’s offered some valuable advice which has helped him to save money in the past, and he’s keen to help others to do the same.

And one of the most simple – and effective – things you can do to save some cash is book your holiday to begin on a Sunday – as this is ‘often the cheapest’ night of the week.

Drawing on his own experiences, he said: “I booked a double room at Hotel Abitart in Rome for just £17 on a Sunday, compared to higher rates on other days. If your travel schedule is flexible, consider including a Sunday night in your stay to reduce costs.

“This is because most holiday trips leave on a Sunday, and start on either a Saturday or Monday. Sunday nights have the lowest occupancy rates, so hotels discount to try and fill it up.”

If you haven’t got a holiday booked yet but you still want to get away someplace warm, don’t worry – sometimes, waiting until the last minute can have real financial benefit, despite what many people might believe.

Conor explained: “Booking at the last minute can score you great deals. I found that a stay at Dreams Jardín Tropical Resort in Tenerife was cheaper when booked a week in advance.

“While it might not suit everyone’s planning style, last-minute deals can be a fantastic way to save. Secret Escapes can be a great tool for this and you can often stack deals with discount codes.”
