Cork flights among delays as Ryanair apologies amid EU traffic control ‘issues’
A number of Cork Airport flights delayed today are among more than 100 aircraft to be held up due to “staff shortages” in Air Traffic Control centres across Europe.
The airline apologised to passengers for “excessive flight delays” affecting customers travelling across Europe. Air Traffic Control issues are affecting all airlines across Europe.
The ongoing ATC concerns have been affecting flights this week in particular.
Ryanair has been apologising to customers nearly every day this week. In a statement released this morning, the airline said that 19% of its first-wave departures were delayed and that the issues are being “caused by European ATC staff shortages today.”

The airline said that despite there being no French ATC strike this summer, ATC services “continue to underperform (despite flight volumes being 5% behind 2019 levels) with repeated “staff shortages”.
“On Sat 13 Jul, 19% of Ryanair’s first wave departures (110 of 574 aircraft) were delayed due to ATC “staff shortages”. These repeated flight delays due to ATC mismanagement are unacceptable.
“We apologise to our passengers for these repeated ATC flight delays which are deeply regrettable but beyond Ryanair’s control.”
Delays at Cork Airport today include Ryanair flights from Edinburgh, Barcelona, Rhodes and to Salou.
