Parenting and survivorship bias: How to deal with older relatives who think they know better

It’s one of those things every parent will have endured at some point in their lives: you’re tightening the straps on your child’s rear-facing car seat, slicing their grapes, anchoring the bedroom furniture, or asking people not to kiss your newborn, when someone — likely a grandparent — has asked what you’re doing.

And then, once you’ve politely explained that you’re doing… well, that you’re doing exactly what it looks like you’re doing, they’ve said something along these lines:
