Man, 60s, dies in two-car collision in Co Louth

A man in his 60s has died and a woman has been seriously injured following a two-car collision in Co Louth this morning.

The collision occurred at around 8.50am on the R166 at Annagassan, Dunleer.

The man, who was driving one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The driver of the second car, a woman in her 40s, was airlifted from the scene and taken to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where she is being treated for serious injuries.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
