Woman, 30s, becomes 104th person to die on Irish roads in 2024

A woman in her 30s has died after a collision between a van and a car on Monday evening.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident on the N80 in Ballintrane in Carlow at around 5.50pm.

The driver of the car, the woman in her 30s, was treated at the scene but died from her injuries.

She is the 104th person to die on Irish roads so far in 2024.

The two male occupants in the van were both airlifted from the scene to hospital where they are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The road remains closed this at this time as garda forensics deal with the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullow Garda Station on 059 915 1222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
