Dublin Airport issues hand luggage warning over banned children’s toys

Dublin Airport has issued a warning to anyone travelling through the hub with young children that particular items are banned from being brought on planes.

The busy Dublin Airport has urged passengers to be aware that bringing toy guns, hurls or other similar items were not allowed onto a flight via hand luggage, stressing that if they were needed for the trip, then be sure to check them in.

Around 3.2 million passengers went through the terminal doors of Dublin Airport in June as the busy summer season fully kicked in, and security were put to the test as long queues formed, so ensuring you have not packed items that might cause an issue will ensure other passengers have a smooth time in the airport.

A spokesperson for the airport said in a post sharing some pictures of toy guns and hurls: “Travelling with kids this summer? A reminder that hurls and toy guns can’t be taken through security in hand luggage. If you need to take them, please check them in.

“Here’s just some of those that have been confiscated by the team over the past week.”

Alongside hurls and toy guns, Dublin Airport has a long list of items you are not allowed to bring through security in your carry-on luggage.

This includes other projectiles like firearms, toy guns, replica/imitation guns, firearm parts (except telescopic sights), airguns, pellet guns, BB guns, flare guns, starting pistols, bows or crossbows, arrows, harpoon guns and spear guns, slingshots and catapults.

Stunning Devices and Incapacitating Devices such as stun guns, tasers, animal killers, incapacitating chemicals and gases or sprays (e.g. mace), pepper sprays, tear gas and animal-repellent spray.

Tools including crowbars, drills and drill bits, saws, blowtorches, bolt guns, nail guns, or any tool with a blade or shaft over 6cm (e.g. screwdrivers or chisels) are also banned.
