Investigation after U15 Waterford hurling clash abandoned following brawl
An U15 hurling championship match in Waterford was abandoned following a brawl involving players, mentors and supporters.
Waterford GAA and Bord na nÓg are now expected to investigate the Division 1 championship match involving Ballygunner and Na Risigh in Mount Sion on Monday evening.
It is believed the game was abandoned as a result of an altercation that involved mentors and spectators who entered the playing area of the pitch.
Footage of the incident has been widely circulated on social media showing the brawl that led to the abandoning of the game by the match referee.
Bord na nÓg Port Lairge will now await the referee’s report, which will outline details of the incident that forced him to abandon the game.
In a statement, Waterford GAA said it was not currently in a position to address the matter.
“Waterford GAA and Bord na nÓg will not be in a position to comment on the game in question until the referees’ reports [have] been received and the process has been completed.”
It is also believed gardaí in Waterford are investigating an alleged assault at the game during the incident, which broke out in the second half.
Gardaí have confirmed they are actively investigating the complaint and what occurred during the incident.
