Social welfare payment shakeup this weekend due to June bank holiday

If you receive any social welfare payment, you need to be aware of a schedule change this weekend.

Banks and post offices will be closed for business on the upcoming Bank Holiday Monday (3 June), meaning many social welfare recipients will be getting paid early. If you’re due to receive your welfare or pension sum at a post office at the start of next week, you will instead be able to collect it early on Friday 31 May.

All payments will return to normal on Tuesday 4 June. Those who receive Child Benefit may also be paid on the Friday to ensure no one receives a late payment. This scheme is usually paid on the first Tuesday of the month, but when it falls after a bank holiday, recipients usually get it early.

The Department of Social Protection said: “Monday 3 June is a Bank Holiday and as a result, any social welfare payments due to be in your account on Monday 3 June will now be paid on Friday 31 May instead. Payments will be paid as normal on Tuesday 4 June. All Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday 3 June. Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will reopen on Tuesday 4 June.”

This comes as many workers have been advised of an additional social welfare scheme part time or systemic short time employees. This is available for any workers who work three days or less. If you’d like to learn more about and how to apply, you can find out more here.
