Irish deal done for Colin Farrell’s The Penguin series

It has been announced that Sky has acquired the Ireland and UK rights to the eagerly awaited Colin Farrell-starring series The Penguin “in one of Sky’s biggest deals in recent months”.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline reports that the show’s broadcast on Sky Atlantic and Now TV this autumn will coincide with its arrival on HBO’s Max service in the US.

The spin-off series from the 2022 film The Batman will see Farrell reprise his role as the DC Comics’ villain Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin.

The Dublin actor is among the executive producers of the series from Warner Bros Television and DC Studios.

Speaking to Deadline, Katie Keenan, Sky’s Group Director of Acquisitions, described The Penguin as “arguably DC’s answer to The Sopranos“.

“The Penguin will add to our roster of tentpole shows as we aim to provide our customers with the best US programming in addition to our impressive lineup of Sky original TV series and films,” she added.

Farrell can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ detective series Sugar.
