Popular Galway city shop threatening to close nearly two years finally shuts
A Galway city business that’s been crying wolf about shutting down for years has kept true to its word this time and shut its doors for good.
Yankee Candles on Abbeygate Street Lower has blacked out its windows, according to one photo of the premises posted online. In 2022, the business placed a note on its windows warning that it was “shutting permanently” and that a closing down sale was currently ongoing.
That news came just a couple of weeks after the store posted that they were looking to recruit a temporary manager. In fact, the recruitment sign was still up on the window opposite the closing down sign when the photo was taken in October 2022.

They must have gotten good use from that manager as the shop kept going, until now, it seems. Social media users had some scepticism as to whether or not the candle shop was definitely closed or not this time, with one user commenting “I’m wondering if it’s renovating or if they actually shut down?”
“They’ve been threatening that for years,” another said, while someone joked that the candle shop had been “snuffed out”.
“The aunties will have to go without the Yankees this Christmas,” a commenter wrote.
Another famous brand in Ireland has announced a massive closing down sale with prices slashed by up to 50% until closing.
To stop rumours circulating online, the manager of Dealz in Shannon has confirmed that the store will close down for good on 17 June.
To mark the sad occasion, the store will have a further 50% reduction on all clothing that’s on sale and when items are gone, they’re gone for good. All new deliveries to the store have been stopped so no new stock will arrive.
