Coldwater Golf finishes 10th at D2 Regional, Eberts lead way in 14th

BATTLE CREEK – The Coldwater Cardinal golf team traveled to familiar terrain on Monday as they made the trip to the Beford Valley Golf Course for the Michigan High School Athletic Assocation (MHSAA) Division 2, Regional 9 tournament.  

Coldwater had a solid outing, one of the best of the season, finishing in tenth place overall in one of the strongest regionals in all of Division Two. The Cardinals saved their absolute best performance for last, putting up their best team score of the season in a tenth-place effort, shooting a 337, bettering their previous best round by eight strokes. 

Coldwater was led on the day by Talan Eberts who fired off a very respectable 79, good enough for fourteenth place. Also adding to the Cardinal effort was Dracyn Foster and Jake Fosdick who shot indentical scores of 85, good enough for a tie in fortieth place; Braydon Wilkins in fifty-first place with a score of 88; and Rayce Johnson in eighty-third place with a score of 102. 

The team from Gull Lake defended home turf and won the regional title with a score of 302, followed by Mason in second place with a score of 305 and Northwest in third place with 311.

Medalist honors went to Maxwell Vandermolen from Gull Lake who claimed regional titles with a score of 70, followed by Jake Bradford of Northwest who fired off a 73, good enough for runner-up honors. 

Those teams and individuals qualifying for the Division 2 MHSAA State Finals will travel to Forest Akers West on the campus of Michigan State University for action on June 7-8.
