Dublin DJ Marty Guilfoyle left shaken by Ryanair’s new €9.50 cocktail
“I thought they might have pre-made from a can, but I definitely didn’t think you’d have to make it yourself.”
He revealed how he splashed out €9.50 for each of two of the cocktails, which consisted of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Sprite and sparkling water while on a flight for a family holiday.
Marty was excited to try Ryanair’s new range of beverages and settled for the ‘Dublin Lemonade’ advertised on the menu in a fancy cocktail glass, with a wedge of fruit on the side.
However, at that price he expected the pricey beverage to be either made for him by the cabin crew or at the very least come premixed in a can.
But Marty’s Dublin Lemonade arrived in the form of two bottles of sparkling water, two small bottles of whiskey, a can of Sprite and plastic cups with a single ice cube.
Although he did admit the cocktail was “delish” in the end, he entertained followers of his Instagram page with a video he narrated as “Come with me to make a cocktail on board a Ryanair flight”.
The clip then showed his friend adding the spirit to the cup before pouring the Sprite and sparkling water. They did not appear to be given a stirrer or anything to mix the drink with.
“When I saw the news that Ryanair was now serving cocktails onboard it got me extra excited for a family trip this week. There’s the ingredients, go on there and make it yourself,” Marty said.
“I thought they might have pre-made from a can, but I definitely didn’t think you’d have to make it yourself.”
However, other passengers commented that they were not that surprised.
One wrote: “We should’ve known really,” while another declared: “No surprise there.”
Another added: “They’re s****. Got a Caribbean one. All excited. They arrived with a Fanta and vodka.”
2fm presenter Laura Fox quipped: “Cocktail making experience is what it was supposed to say hahahahaha.”
A fourth commented: “No, this is so iconic and of course we couldn’t expect anything less.”
Ryanair are also offering cocktails including ‘Fruit Snack’, which is made up of Bombay Sapphire gin, Sprite Zero and a Capri-Sun, a ‘Rose Spritz’ consisting of rosé wine and Sprite Zero and ‘Flying Iced Tea’ which uses Bombay Sapphire gin, Absolut vodka and Coca-Cola.
Head of Communications at the airline, Jade Kirwan, said of the launch: “Summer is finally here, and what better way to kickstart your summer holiday than with a delicious cocktail from Ryanair’s new in-flight cocktail menu?
“Adding to our already extensive range of in-flight food and beverage options, our new cocktail range offers a selection of seven ready-to-drink cocktails from Flying Iced Tea to French 75 to Rose Spritz and more.”
