(5-29-2024, 2:30PM): A first ever Jackson County High School Basketball all-star game is being held next week, Thursday June 6th.

This is a chance for local players to be honored for exceptional play on the court this season by playing one last game in their high school career. Per MHSAA eligibility rules, only seniors (outgoing graduating class) are allowed to play and participate in games.

This event has been put together by Lumen Christi Head Coach Josh Tropea along with a committee of other local coaches. “When I came to this area, I recognized that there is more passion for high school sports in Jackson than any other area i’ve coached in. We’ve seen other counties put on all-star games for other sports and we wanted to get one off the ground for our area” said Tropea.

The game will feature eight players on each team with the following players and coaches participating below:

Coaches: Derek Seidl (Napoleon) & Logan Neil (Springport)

DeVonta Habern (Napoleon)

Holden VanPoppel (Napoleon)

Duncan Moffit (Northwest)

Tyreke Brown (Concord)

Mekhi Wingfield (Concord)

Brayden Hawes (Springport)

Jermaine Overton (East Jackson)

Caleb Weaver (East Jackson)

Coaches: Marshawn Norris (Grass Lake) & Jim Dutton (former Napoleon Head Coach)

Logan Blackledge (Hanover-Horton)

Hunter Clemons (Michigan Center)

Koronnis Davis (Jackson)

Sherquan Wilson (Jackson)

Darrion Weller (Jackson)

Issac Lanham (Jackson Christian)

Kasen Burgess (Lumen Christi)

Connor Cole (Columbia Central)

Due to low number of girls commits to play in the event, there is no girls game this year. The all-star girls will be honored at halftime of the boys game. “Only nine of 20 girls players could commit to playing. Hopefully the interest of the boys game can spark the girls game to happen next year. There is so much girls talent in this area, and we hope to give them an event to play in one more time”. The girls all-stars are listed in the graphic below:
