Person killed after being sucked into plane as passengers watch on in horror
A person has been killed after they were sucked into a plane engine at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
It is being reported that he person got stuck in the engine of a KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190 preparing to fly out of the airport, reports the Mirror.
Passengers and crew are believed to have witnessed first-hand the “hellish” incident, as described by witnesses.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the deceased was a passenger or an employee. They were caught in the engine of the plane as it was being pushed back from the stand in preparation for its departure to Denmark.

Passengers and crew members watched the terrifying incident. Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, witnesses said there was a “hellish noise” as the person was sucked into the jet turbine. One said: “Many people saw it happen.”
A source from the Dutch military police reported that the shocking death was detected by pilots who noticed an irregularity in the engine as the plane was taxiing for take-off. Authorities are attempting to speak to passengers.
Local news source NL Times said authorities evacuated all passengers from the departing aircraft. The Marechaussee, a branch of the military responsible for policing the airport, said in a statement: “All passengers and employees of the flight in question have disembarked and are being taken care of.”
Images tweeted from the scene show the plane surrounded by emergency services at the terminal.
The plane, which can carry up to 104 passengers, was scheduled to take off for Billund in Denmark at 2.25pm. In a statement, pilots union VNV said: “Our first concern and thoughts go out to those involved and their relatives. We offer our cooperation and expertise in the investigation into the exact cause.”
KLM released a statement explaining the tragic event: “Today there was a horrible incident at Schiphol in which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine. Sadly the person has died. We receive passengers and employees who have seen this at Schiphol. The circumstances are currently being investigated. For further information – as soon as available – we refer to the Royal Military Police.”
A statement released by Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) airport reads: “Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we care for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation.”
Mark Harbers, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, posted to X: “Terrible news about a fatal accident today at Schiphol. My condolences go out to the relatives of the victim and the people who witnessed the accident.”
Officers investigating the incident are now working to piece together the circumstances leading up to the death.
