Adelphi Hotel in Portrush to close until 2025 following acquisition by US golf resort group

The Adelphi Hotel in Portrush will close with immediate effect ahead of a reopening next year as a new luxury brand.

The 28-bed four-star hotel on Main Street in the town, managed by the Holmes family, has been bought by US property group AJ Capital Partners, which operates under the Marine & Lawn golf hotel portfolio.

It already has a presence in the north, having paid £40 million for the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle in August 2021.

In a statement, AJ Capital Partners said: “Adelphi Portrush will close for comprehensive guest room and common space renovations from May 31, and will re-launch under the Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts collection in 2025.

“With a deep understanding and respect for the history of the hotel and its connection to the Northern Irish community, the renovation will pay homage to the destination’s natural beauty and rich traditions.

“We are honoured to now have Adelphi Portrush as part of our distinct set of properties.”

AJ Capital Partners already owns three hotels near golf courses in Scotland – The Marine Troon, Rusacks St Andrews and Marine North Berwick – as well as the Slieve Donard.

And it is anticipated that the new-look Adelphi will reopen in time for The 153rd Open, which returning to Royal Portrush from July 17-20 next year.

Adelphi Portrush will become the sixth property in its Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts collection.
