Major food recall warning over popular dessert sold in SuperValu

People are being urged not to consume the affected products.

The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection apple and berries tarts are being recalled from SuperValu supermarkets across the country.

The dessert item sold in a number of retailers was pulled from shelves after it was deemed “unsafe” for some people to eat. 

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued an allergen alert on Thursday, May 30, for specific batches of The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection sold in a number of SuperValu supermarkets, Donnybrook Fair stores, and a number of other retailers.

They said: “The above batches of The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection apple and berries tarts contain sodium metabisulphite (sulphur dioxide), which is not declared in the list of ingredients. 

“This may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide.”

The affected items may be “unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of” due to the sulphur dioxide and sulphite allergens.

People are being urged not to consume the affected products. 

The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection Apple Raspberry and Blueberry comes in a pack size of 575g, while the Apple and Berry has a pack size of 450g. 

It also has a best-before date up to and including June 5.

Aldi are also recalling the Maisha Cold Brew Coffee Original and Maisha Cold Brew Coffee Lemon Flavour.

As a precautionary measure, Aldi is recalling the above batches  this product has been stored incorrectly, which could make it unsafe to consume.
