Fire breaks out in shopping centre with area evacuated

A serious fire broke out at a shopping centre in Surrey, near the South West London border, this evening (Wednesday, May 29).

Eight fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze at The Heart Shopping Centre in Walton, according to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.




Residents were evacuated but the fire has now been put out, after around an hour.

All residents have been accounted for.


Firefighters are still at the scene with the police.

Fire has been put out

The Surrey fire brigade has confirmed the fire is now out, with all residents safely accounted for.

A spokesperson wrote on Twitter: “Fire at The Heart, Walton KT12 now out. All residents accounted for. We remain in attendance at the site with Surrey Police.”

What we know so far

Eight fire engines are at The Heart Shopping Centre in Walton after a fire broke out.

The Surrey fire service has evacuated people nearby.

They have advised anyone who lives nearby to close their windows and doors to avoid any smoke inhalation.
