By 6.0 last Sunday, the last week in May, Tipperary, Waterford and Galway’s participation in the hurling championship was over.
Given the bear-pit the Munster Championship has become, Tipp and Waterford’s exit was hardly shocking; and the Déise at least emerged from the year with their honour intact. No other side will have more regrets — because if they’d seen out the four-point lead they held against Tipp with time almost up, or didn’t concede that last gasp 65 to Clare, they, and not Cork, would be looking forward to the big days still to come.
