HMRC’s new statement as ‘thousands’ miss Child Benefit payments
Many parents shared their anguish after not receiving their child benefit payment.
There had been many reports of parents hadn’t received the monthly payment, that usually comes at the end of each month, over the weekend. Parents were told to expect the payment on Monday, June 3, however thousands have still not received the benefit this morning.
HMRC Customer Support took to X, formerly Twitter, to apologise for the delay. A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers’ Child Benefit payments have not arrived as scheduled and we are working urgently to resolve the issue.

“There’s no need for customers to call us and we will provide updates here as soon as they are available.” Many parents took to social media to get in touch with HMRC regarding the missing payment and how this has now impacted them.
Writing on X, one person said: “We’re heavily reliant on the child benefit payment on a Monday – I’ve got nothing now for food for my child.”
Another added: “Like many others my child benefit has not gone in today, I’m now left like many other parents short especially as it goes towards our food shopping what is going on?”
A third parent also said: “Hello, like others I haven’t received my child benefit today, my son hasn’t been able to go to school as I haven’t been able to purchase his bus pass. Can anyone please tell us what’s happening?”
One other parent added: “Woke up this morning to find my Tesco order cancelled due to lack of funds… yet ordered specifically to be delivered before school run, with children’s lunch box bits but due to no child benefit payment, there wasn’t enough funds in my account.”
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis also asked on X whether people had not received the Child Benefit payment, he said: “Are you expecting a child benefit payment today. If so has it been paid. Some seem to be reporting missing payments?”
Hundreds of people shared their experience with the missing payment. One mum said: “Mine hasn’t been paid either, I had to send my child with coins to pay for his dinner money as I can’t pay online, hopefully it will go in tomorrow.”
Another added: “Yes I am. No, not received it. No idea if or when I will. Need items for my children. Now in overdraft due to it not going in. I am fuming. Cant get through to HMRC either.”
An HMRC spokesperson said: “We are aware some customers’ Child Benefit payments have not arrived and we are working to resolve the issue.”
You get child benefit if you’re responsible for bringing up a child who is under 16, or under 20 if they stay in approved education or training. Only one person can get child benefit for a child, but there’s no limit to how many children you can claim for. An allowance is paid to a parent for each child, which you usually get every four weeks.
