‘A Joke’: Ian Poulter’s ‘Disappointing’ Fate Infuriates Fans as LIV Golf Houston Preps Faces Concerning Hindrance

Adam Hadwin had experienced the same thing. Now, it’s Ian Poulter’s turn to do so. The Canadian Pro had his bag full of golf clubs separated from him, with it being stuck in Denver while he was in Ontario for the RBC Canadian Open recently. Exactly a week later, the LIV Golf Pro came face-to-face with a similar experience with his equipment.

A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF on its X handle, mentioning how the 48-year-old had taken to his Instagram profile to express dissatisfaction and complain about a golf club baggage issue with British Airways. He exclaimed, “How disappointing” it was to experience such a situation while expressing his frustration with the message he received from the airlines: “I checked in 2 hours and 30 minutes before the flight. What could possibly be the excuse? Just received the email 3 hours into the flight. I wouldn’t have bothered flying if you’re not sending my golf clubs. Can’t swing fresh air.”

That’s not all. Poulter shared another story conveying how angry he was at the airlines. “Talk about pissed off @british_airways,” said the golfer before adding how he personally took to check if his equipment were of the correct size: “The golf bag wasn’t overweight. I took it to over size and scanned it and watched it go down the belt.” The professional posted the update with a selfie of himself sporting an irritated look on the airplane.

Such a situation, unfortunately, happens every now and then with golfers and their bags. Even the Canadian golfer took to social media to express dissatisfaction with AirCanada when his bag was stuck in Denver for 20 hours. The clubs were then subsequently sent to Toronto via another flight, eliciting another tweet of displeasure from the 36-year-old.

While Hadwin faced the same ahead of the RBC Canadian Open, the unfortunate experience for Ian Poulter came just three days ahead of the start of LIV Golf’s 8th event at the Golf Club of Houston. The last contest in the PIF-funded circuit took place in Singapore, back in May 03 at the Sentosa Golf Club. The professional was, thus, traveling to Houston from England to attend the league’s comeback tournament that will tee off on June 7, almost a month after its previous event. The fans, however, didn’t share his disappointment as they took to bash the athlete over his latest update on the internet.

A lot of golfers signed with LIV Golf in 2022 during its inaugural season. Ian Poulter was one of the first professionals to join the Saudi-backed league. He did so while being reportedly offered somewhere between $20 million and $30 million. A follower, consequently, couldn’t help but issue a jab along the same lines: “Just use a penny of your Saudi funds to fly private dude,” while another directly mocked the Englishman for his inability to fly private despite being a co-team owner; “Part OWNER of a golf team can’t fly private?? Majesticks are a joke.”

A video emerged back in July 2022 where the likes of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Pat Perez, among others, were enjoying themselves on a luxury plane. This had sparked much controversy about the Saudi-backed league using an ‘absurd’ private jet to transport their players. A fan went ahead to point that out while asking ironically, “I thought LIV had private jets for all their players?”

Ian Poulter has been having not-that-good of a time in the current season, with just a single top-10 finish while placing himself as low as T52 in the Adelaide event and T51 in Jeddah. Moreover, he currently occupies the 37th spot on the season-long leaderboard, causing a user on X who watches the event to comment, “Can’t get a T41 without clubs.” Another follower, meanwhile, responded, “Who cares what happens on LIV.” There are still people who are against the disruptive circuit, despite the merger talks going on between PIF and the PGA Tour. They have such a strong dislike for the breakaway league that they do not tune in to watch any games on the same.
