Horror photo shows Victoria Wood statue ploughed by car in devastating crash

A statue to one of Greater Manchester’s best-loved stars has been knocked out of the ground in a crash. Dramatic images show the scene moments after a silver people carrier ploughed into the Victoria Wood statue in Bury last night (June 3).

The statue has stood in Church Gardens, off Silver Street, for five years. But now the structure has been knocked to the ground.

Officers were called out to the scene late last night, following the collision. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “We were called shortly after 10pm.

“No arrests. Driver went to hospital with injuries but not believed to be serious or life changing.”

Images from last night show the front end of the car was completely trashed in the collision. The vehicle also appears at an angle, with the front wheels resting on top of the structure.

Luckily, the statue appears to be in relatively good condition despite the crash. It is on the ground this morning, surrounded by bright orange barriers for protection.
