Overhaul Continues at Danville Tennis Center; with ARPA Funds from City of Danville Hard at Work
Back when the Danville City Council was making decisions on how to spend about $26 million in ARPA COVID relief funding, one organization with a huge presence at pretty much every meeting was the Danville Tennis Center. And when all was said and done; $500,000 in ARPA funds were awarded to the center for some major improvements.
Danville Tennis Center Board of Directors President Laurie Sermersheim says the work on six outdoor courts and fencing, starting from the ground up, is happening now; and should be completed by the end of June. They are hoping to get a special open house and some clinics scheduled, and there will be a certain new feature as well.
AUDIO: Two of them are going to be striped for pickleball. You know, that’s the new fad in sports right now. And, that will help join our two pickleball courts that are inside.
Sermersheim will be giving a progress report on all the work at the Danville Tennis Center during this coming Thursday’s (June 6th) Danville Kiwanis meeting, 12 Noon at Danville VFW Post 728 on Pine Street. Sermersheim says one point she wants to reemphasize is something that was also said when the City Council was making their decision: the Danville Tennis Center is not a private club. It is open to the public; as well as being the home court for the Danville High School and Schlarman Academy tennis teams, in addition to having hosted sectionals.
While all the outdoor work is still being done, the four indoor Danville Tennis Center courts are fully available. And yes, pickleball is available indoors as well.
