Ant and Dec break silence on BGT winner after Sydnie Christmas ‘fix row’

Following Sydnie Christmas’ crowning as this year’s Britain’s Got Talent winner which sparked a fix row, hosts Ant and Dec have revealed who they had predicted to win the show. The Geordie duo previously wrote down who they thought would go all the way and after the winner was announced, they revealed to viewers if in fact they were right or wrong.

In a clip uploaded to their joint Instagram account, Ant and Dec, both 48, shared the backstage content with their 5.1 million followers. The video began with the pair writing down their top two contestants on pieces of paper before the first live semi-final on the Monday night, before placing the cards inside huge envelopes.

As they opened them up on stage, they were joined by winner Sydnie as well as judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli. Dec was first to turn his card around and revealed: “Sydnie Christmas and Jack Rhodes.”

Ant then announced: “Sydnie Christmas and Jack Rhodes,” meaning they both got the top two right, as magician Jack came in second place. Clearly impressed, Simon came over and told Ant and Dec: “Welcome to the new judging panel!” as the group erupted into laughter.

Ant cheekily added: “Bye guys, we’re in. We’re the judges now!,” before signing off. They captioned it: “Well you’ve heard it here first… see you next year on the judging panel,” alongside a wink emoji.

Sydnie managed to impress viewers at home with her singing talent and was crowned as this year’s winner on Sunday night.

However, it seemed as though not everybody was best pleased about the winner, as viewers flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts.

One person slammed: “Another @BGT fix [sic] another person who is trained in singing and theatre who has been on stage before… amazing singer but there were other acts who should have had their chance! Ah well…”

Another X user said: “Obvious fix for Syndie to win, let’s be real. Jack Rhodes got robbed of winning the show, by far the best act of the night. 2nd place for him.”

A third added: “If it wasn’t obvious enough that Sydnie Christmas is the favourite to win, whipping out Somewhere Over The Rainbow certainly does it #BGTFinal #bgt #BritainsGotTalent.”

Despite the backlash, some ITV viewers were thrilled to see Sydnie take the BGT 2024 crown.

Someone penned: “Sydnie Christmas is a very deserved #BGT winner. She was absolutely fantastic from the first audition.”

While another said: “Well deserved Sydnie. I remember shouting at the TV “she’s the winner” during her audition.”
