‘Trying Too Hard to be Cool’: Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘Stache’ Leaves Golf World in Serious Dilemma

Bryson DeChambeau has channeled his inner Eric Van Rooyen at Houston. Although his lampshade is far away from Johnson Wagner’s walrus, it has invited comparisons with both. Even the former U.S. Open champion knows it’s the talk of the town. So when a reporter asked about his red-hot form, DeChambeau couldn’t resist a little joke around his new look.

Here is how the exchange went:

DeChambeau: “Is it the ‘stache’?”

Reporter: “Yes, it’s the ‘stache’” (Laughing)

Asked about his beard later, the former U.S. Open champion said, I had someone say you might look good in a ‘stache, and I was like, all right, I’ll try it. I had a big scruff, and I shaved it all down. There’s a video that’s coming out on YouTube that is old school style.”

DeChambeau has posted snippets from the upcoming video on his social media handles. The two-time LIV Golf winner donned four-ups, posing with hickory clubs. Regardless, DeChambeau isn’t exactly committed to keeping it.

The clip is done and it’ll be uploaded on his channel a few weeks later. So, the 30-year-old joked,We’ll see how long this lasts though. If I play bad the first day, I’m probably just going to shave it.Fans, however, are divided on that look. Some believe it’s fitting for the LIV Golf Pro whereas others are not so sure.

DeChambeau’s popularity has surged after a fiery battle in the Masters and then at the PGA Championship. The LIV golfer also became a fan favorite after his exchanges with spectators went viral on social media. Some of them found it hard to criticize the 30-year-old. “I love this dude! The most dynamic, overpowering talent in touring professional golf” wrote one of them. Another fan wrote, “PGAT wishes they had a popular player with his charisma.”

When Bryson DeChambeau posted his ‘old-school’ look earlier, Flushing It Golf dubbed him the ‘most entertaining man in the golf” right now. It appears fans have totally bought the new look. One user quipped, “I hate that I’m starting to like Bryson.”

DeChambeau has collaborated with famed Golf influencer Paige Spiranac. They made a few fun instructional videos that also started off the dating rumors. Referring to that, one fan wondered, “What does @PaigeSpiranac  think of the stache”.

However, some on the Internet were more concerned about his game than his looks. They pointed out that DeChambeau has yet to win anything, so calling him the ‘hottest golfer’ on the planet is an exaggeration. Moreover, they thought, Bryson DeChambeau was trying too hard to be cool.” Another user had a rather peculiar adjective for the LIV Golfer’s little makeover: Patchy. Give him another ten years to season, fill out, stop being a poser, and golf might make a man out of him yet!”

Bryson DeChambeau has four top-tens from his seven appearances in the PIF-funded side this year. But more than that, his blistering form at the two majors made him one of the most eagerly-anticipated stars to watch out for at the U.S. Open. Should he keep that beard, that might add to his already growing popularity.
