Jakarta minister meets with Google to tackle online gambling using AI
Communications and Informatics Minister of Jakarta, Budi Arie Setiadi met with Google representatives to discuss using artificial intelligence (AI) to combat online gambling reported Antara News.
The meeting, held on June 4, 2024, focused on leveraging AI technology to improve the speed and accuracy of identifying and handling online gambling content. Current methods rely on a combination of human and machine efforts, which AI can enhance, according to Setiadi.
“From the meeting with Google, processing online gambling content reports can be faster with help from AI,” Setiadi announced on Wednesday.
Setiadi urged Google to implement AI technology to tackle online gambling in Indonesia while considering cybersecurity and good governance aspects.
The AI-based approach is still in the testing phase, Setiadi noted. He had previously announced his plans to discuss the issue with Google, highlighting the company’s role in supporting government initiatives to eliminate online gambling.
“Google will assist us in eradicating online gambling with AI technology as part of their commitment to government programs,” Setiadi said.
He emphasized that Google’s recent AI innovations support Indonesia’s efforts to combat online gambling. Over the past year, the government has increased its efforts to shut down digital gambling activities.
In late May 2024, President Joko Widodo reassigned the national task force to address the online gambling ecosystem, led by Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.
