Courtland’s best girls’ tennis season ended with a 5-2 loss to Broad Run in Friday’s VHSL Class 4 state final at Huntington Park in Newport News.
Fourth-seeded Libby Snow and fifth-seeded Drew Sherwood earned singles wins for the Cougars (21-1), who reached the first state championship match in school history. But the Spartans’ strength at the top of their lineup, led by sisters Lexi and Izzy Rotaru, proved decisive as they finished with a 21-0 record.
Lexi Rotaru is the reigning Class 4 state singles champion.
