Device in north Dublin found to be hoax after controlled explosions carried out

Two controlled explosions were carried out by the army bomb squad in north Dublin today after a suspicious device was found.

Members of the Defence Forces and An Garda Siochana responded to the scene in Fairview at around 4:20pm. Road closures were put in place between Fairview Strand and Richmond Road, as well as between Fairview Strand and Phillipsburgh Avenue.




Following an examination from the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, the device was found to be a hoax. Traffic restrictions in the area have now lifted.

A spokesman for the Defence Forces told Dublin Live: “Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts from the Defence Forces responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána this evening, in relation to a suspicious device in the Fairview area of Dublin.

“Following an analysis and technical examination of the scene, two controlled explosions were carried out on site. The scene has now been handed over to An Garda Síochána, and the operation has concluded.”

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “A security alert on Fairview Strand, following the discovery of a suspicious device shortly after 4 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday June 6th, 2024, has now concluded.
