Two injured in rottweiler attack in Meath
Meanwhile, Tánaiste Micheál Martin says he doesn’t understand the need for having dangerous pets.
A woman in her 40s and a man in his 20s had to be treated in hospital after being attacked by a rottweiler in County Meath this week.
Gardaí attended the scene on Main Street in Enfield at 1:20pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Both were brought to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for treatment of minor injuries.
The dog was handed over to the local authority Dog Warden.
It follows the death of 23-year-old Nicole Morey in an attack by an XL bully dog in Limerick on Tuesday, while a man and a woman were taken to hospital yesterday after a pitbull terrier – which was later shot dead by Gardaí – attacked them at a house in Cork.
The Tánaiste says the overall protection of society is more important than having restricted breeds of pets.
Micheál Martin says he doesn’t understand the need for having dangerous pets: “We have to bear in mind the overall protection of society and particularly children and younger people who are vulnerable. We had the horrific case in Ballyneety where a young woman lost her life as a result of such an attack.
“In my view, there is no need to be creating such danger at all in the context of having pets”.
