RTE First Dates duo who became best pals after show now set to go on double date
Unlucky-in-love Siobhan Warde and Jade Treanore became such good pals when they were paired on a double date with two lads last year they’ve now decided to team up and go on the hunt together.
First Dates is celebrating its 10th season later this year and producers are keen for singletons, especially men aged over 35, to apply.
They are pinning their hopes on Siobhan and Jade piquing interest in the telly favourite.
The duo were matched with best pals James Donohoe and Stephen Hughes.
Mayo woman Siobhan was paired last time around with talkative Cavan man James (28)
“I wouldn’t say anything went wrong, I genuinely hand on heart really enjoyed our date in the restaurant and getting to know him outside it,” explains Siobhan (25), from Castlebar.
“But I think there were a couple of obstacles. Particularly the distance between where we live in Cavan and Mayo. I think we were suited, but we couldn’t overcome that.”
Siobhan works with adults with disabilities, and is studying Social Care.
She’s yet to find the man of her dreams in Mayo.
“I’m not going to tar them all with the same brush but I just kind of haven’t met my person and it’s such a big place out there, there’s so many people I haven’t met anyone here,” she explains.
“I have been on Tinder, but they’re just looking for quick meets, most of them. Each to their own, but that’s not what I’m looking for.
“I want to find a best friend, that could possibly lead into that [marriage], but I don’t go into dates thinking ‘he’s the one for me’. I’m 25, nearly 26, I want to find a best friend and then go from there,” she says.
Jade’s handsome Longford date Stephen would not have been her cup of tea either.
“I don’t think I’d consider Stephen. He’d be someone I’d get on with and be friends with, but I don’t think I’d see him in a romantic way. I didn’t feel a connection with him,” she points out.
Bisexual Jade (27), who’s from Newry but lives in Dublin where she works for Pandora jewellers, says she was ribbed by pals about dishy Stephen.
“Everyone was going ‘your date is so hot’, but I was going ‘he’s a bit of a bore’,” she giggles.
“I did get on well with him and he is a bit of a pretty boy, but he just wasn’t for me and he has been with a girl for months now as well.”
She says she doesn’t really have time to pin down the man or woman of her dreams just yet.
“The last thing I want to do on my day off is go on a date,” she argues. “I’m really old school; all my exes I met through friends or whatever — [I’m] not into apps. I couldn’t think of anything more boring than texting someone asking ‘hi, how are you?’. It would bore me to tears.
“I’m saving for a mortgage at the minute, so until I have a house there’ll be no marriage and no kids.”
Siobhan says the two women have bonded.
“I’ve seen Jade quite a bit,” she reveals. “Jade came to Castlebar, on Valentine’s Day actually. She came down with some flowers and a cute necklace for me. I went up to Dublin for my birthday and she had a cake ready for me and everything. I just bonded with her so quickly.”
