The West Cork set: top actors chill out in West Cork’s star struck  catchment

Set the scene in West Cork

House at Lissaclarig East, on six acres: agent Maeve McCarty guides the property with movie-set size farm lot at €575k

YOU could film a movie in the set-sized barns and outbuildings at this private West Cork farm house holding … and, you could hold auditions for roles among your ‘neighbours’, who quite breathtakingly include the likes of Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan, Robert Sheehan and, by now, the veteran thespian, Jeremy Irons.

A very near neighbour to this substantial 2,700 sq ft home with substantial adjacent farmyard is Irish actor Robert Sheehan, start of TV’s Misfits, Love/Hate and currently acting in a UK stage production of many actors’ favourite film of all time, Withnail & I which premiered last month at the Birmingham Rep, with a transfer to London’s West End hoped for.

London, and occasionally LA-based-Sheehan bought a West Cork retreat two years ago at Skeagh, between Skibbereen and Ballydehob and just a few miles inland from actor Jeremy Irons’ restored castle at Kilcoe, while producer David Putnam lives along the Ilen River.

Also now with holiday homes in the area are actor and heartthrob Paul Mescal, at Schull and Saoirse Ronan at Ballydehob some 10km away: It’s quite the casting room.

Just listed for sale adjacent to Robert Sheehan’s West Cork Skeagh hideaway is this Lissaclarig East property mix, considerably altered from its 19th century origins, and with a balcony in the middle of its five-bay façade for delivering speeches, or directing action scenes from?

On six acres just a few miles from the coastline, and uber private, it’s priced at €575,000 by Maeve McCarthy of Chas P McCarthy auctioneers in Schull who says it’s got “a unique blend of traditional character and modern comfort, making it an ideal home for those seeking a serene rural lifestyle”.

It currently has up to seven bedrooms, so guests will never be short of a bed for the night, although several can be joined for a few larger ones, and has a side sun room plus study as well as main living rooms etc, and has C2 BER.

The land associated with it has been sold off to create a larger farm for a neighbour, and now this is offered with its yard, 2,500 sq ft stone outbuildings and a c 10,000 sq ft barn if new owners want it all, or as equally can be bought without them if they so wish.

VERDICT: The area is ideal for wildlife observing, whale watching, and star-gazing.
