Soccer Aid in chaos as star suffers injury hours before celebrity football match

SAM Thompson’s Soccer Aid dream is “under threat” after suffering an injury.

The 31-year-old is set to take part in the celebrity football match tomorrow night presented by Unicef ambassador Dermot O’Leary and England and Arsenal legend Alex Scott.

Celebrities including Robbie Williams and Paddy McGuinness will take part in the charity tournament.

During the third day of training ahead of Sunday night’s match, Tony Bellew spent time with his I’m A Celeb co-star Sam in the physio room.

“Do you just live in here? You’ve been in here all day,” Tony said.

Sam laughed it off, telling him: “It’s because I’ve tweaked the old quad, mate.”

He then paid tribute to the physio team, writing: “They call the physio room the Sam room. What a group of legends.”

It’s hoped Sam will recover in time to play for the England team against World XI.

The annual charity match is the biggest in the world and since 2006 has raised more than £90million in total for global children’s charity Unicef.

The 2023 tournament was the most successful on record, raising a record-breaking £14.6m.

Sam Matterface will be lead commentary and comedian Iain Sterling on co-comms.

Sam Thompson added: “What an experience. What a dream. I can’t believe I’m here.”
