Irish jobs at risk in second round of Citrix layoffs
Over 60 Dublin-based staff are at risk in the latest round of layoffs by the parent firm of tech firm Citrix
Irish staff have been notified of the company’s intentions, which are expected to affect a cross-section of staff at the software group.
It’s the second time in 12 months that the tech firm has let staff at its Irish office go, having laid off workers last January.
Two weeks ago, the CEO of Citrix’s parent firm, Cloud Software Group, said that around 1,000 of the group’s 8,000 worldwide staff would be affected.
“We notified approximately 12pc of the total Cloud Software Group workforce that their roles have been eliminated,” wrote Tom Krause on Linkedin.
“However, for many of those roles, namely in our Operations, Security and IT functions, we are working with partners who will rehire many of those individuals to continue providing outsourced services to Cloud Software Group.”
A spokesperson for the company’s Irish office has been contacted for comment.
The number employed at the Dublin operation is understood to be between 200 and 300 people, including sister software firm Tibco, suggesting deeper cuts at the Irish operation than globally.
Staff have been told that some functions currently overseen in Dublin are to be outsourced to India.
The Irish Independent understands that there is unease among some staff at the proposed redundancy conditions, which are said to be weaker than those offered in a similar redundancy round last January.
Under Irish employment law, multinationals are obliged to inform the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment when embarking on a significant round of layoffs.
“To those impacted, thank you for your contributions in the first year of Cloud Software Group,” said Mr Krause.
“These decisions are never taken lightly, but are necessary to build the strongest foundation possible for the future.”
Citrix has had a presence in Dublin for over 20 years. Its office at East Point Business Park was designed as a hub for digital sales, finance, HR, technical support and consulting services teams.
