Man Arrested After Holiday Flight Diverted To Shannon Airport – Clare FM

A man is being questioned by Gardaí after he was removed from a flight that diverted Shannon Airport this evening.

Jet 2 Holidays flight LS-155 was travelling from Glasgow, Scotland to Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands and was about 300 kilometres off the south coast of Ireland when the crew turned around.

The crew of the Boeing 737-800 jet advised controllers that they had a ‘disruptive passenger’ on board and that ‘fighting’ had broken out in the passenger cabin. The crew said they would need ‘police on arrival’ and Gardaí based in the airport were alerted.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí attached to Shannon Airport arrested a man, aged in his 20s following an incident on board an aircraft that diverted to Shannon Airport earlier this evening.

Gardaí met the aircraft and arrested the man under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in County Clare. Investigations are ongoing.”

A spokespersons for Jet2Holidays confirmed: “We can confirm that flight LS155 from Glasgow to Tenerife has diverted to Shannon Airport this afternoon so that police could offload a disruptive passenger.”

A second Jet2 aircraft arrived in Shannon this evening from East Midlands Airport at 7.45pm. It’s understood this flight was carried replacement crew members so the original flight could continue to its destination.

The flight resumed its journey to Tenerife shortly before 9.00pm.

Earlier today, a flight from the US to Germany diverted to Shannon with an ill passenger.

United Airlines flight UA-102 had departed Houston, Texas at around 9.40pm (Irish time) on Tuesday and was routing to Munich when the crew declared a medical emergency.

The flight landed shortly after 7.00am and the passenger was taken to UHL for treatment. The flight continued its journey at 8.40am.
