Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler evacuated from Shelbourne Hotel during fire

US actor Henry Winkler was among those evacuated from the Shelbourne Hotel after a fire broke out on the fifth floor of the building this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10:30am and the fire was brought under control by 11:30am. Dublin Fire Brigade, who had six fire engines in attendance, said a “prompt and effective evacuation by staff helped enormously at the scene”.

Mr Winkler, best known for his role as The Fonz from US sitcom Happy Days, is currently in Dublin to perform his show “Henry Winkler: The Fonz and Beyond Show” at the National Concert Hall tonight. He is a guest at The Shelbourne and was among those evacuated.

The Emmy Award winner was seen in good spirits outside the hotel and shared a smiling photo of him with three Dublin Fire Brigade members.
