How I Travel: Danielle Corona
The Hunting Season creative director and co-founder is making some of the coolest, most authentic accessories, handbags and home pieces on the market that feature an artisanal, European sensibility coupled with enduring practicality.
The label echoes Corona’s own journey. She took accessory design courses in Miami before interning at Valentino Garavani’s design studio in Rome under Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Inspired to design handbags and accessories of exceptional’ quality, she moved to New York and launched Hunting Season in 2008. Soon after stylists, cool girls and celebrities like Katie Holmes and Hailey Bieber came calling. Corona is now based in Colombia with her husband and three children and has a lot more in store for the brand this year. Here, Corona outlines her travel dos and don’ts – from her favorite terminal to the playlist that keeps her flying high.
Danielle Corona’s Travel Intel:
My go-to airline is: Oneworld
My favorite seat on the flight is: in an ideal world, anything business or first, never near a bathroom.
My go-to in-flight beverage is: Water and electrolytes
My favorite airport/terminal is: Harbour Island, Bahamas. It’s tiny, you do not feel like you are in an airport. I also love Geneva, Switzerland – it’s clean and civilized, everything has a place and the flow is harmonious.
The second I get on a plane, I: Organize my space and if it is a long flight I change into lounge or sleepwear right away
My go-to travel uniform is: knit pants and top set by the Row, pashmina from India, and Hoka sneakers. They are comfortable and I can walk forever if I have to.
My carry-on consists of: Books, snacks, change of clothes for long flights.
The pieces I take everywhere are: notebook, sunglasses, and a pashmina scarf.
My flying soundtrack is: Philip Glass and Max Richter
My favorite thing about flying is: There is a peace and quiet when you are in the air removed from the world and disconnected. I spend a lot of time just thinking, writing notes, and reading.
The worst part about flying is: the effect on the planet.
My one flying hack is: to read or listen to Tich Naht Han. Flying can be stressful and cause anxiety with lines, traffic, delays, lost luggage and crowded spaces. I find it is always helpful to think like a buddhist.
The second I land, I: check in with my family.
As soon as I check into my hotel room, I: make dinner reservations with the concierge.
My favorite hotel in the world is: Tawaraya Kyoto is a true traditional ryokan, the definition of Japanese luxury and tradition. It feels like an undiscovered secret from the past. There is a story in every detail or piece of furniture.
My favorite city in the world is: This is hard, because I prefer nature and countryside but as far as big cities to visit, I love London and Tokyo.
A concierge will know that I prefer: I do not have this relationship with the concierge. but I do ask them for many restaurant reservations. It is always helpful and I have usually sent a list before I arrive.
My favorite hotel memory is: Arriving to the Amangiri in Utah. It is an architectural masterpiece. Its beauty is in its simplicity and the way it highlights and blends into its surroundings.
I conquer jetlag by: melatonin, meditation, and lots of water.
My biggest piece of travel advice is: always have a good book with you . No matter how long the flight or airport lines even if you are delayed if you are reading a good book, it’s a good time and you can escape the stresses of airport travel.
